Google Ranking Factors

Google looks at over 200 items to determine if a website will come up in a browser's search query. Google will never tell you these factors but most experts have a good idea of what the main items are. Not all the factors are equally important. However there are few items that have the biggest search impact. Lets take a look.

  1. Words: It's that simple. If your website has the keywords that browsers are searching for, you at least have a chance to come up in the SERPs. The keywords should be placed in the title, URL, H1, image ALT tags and within the body of the descriptive content. The location of keywords on a website is known as SEO (search engine optimization). Good quality content with 250+ words will rank better than skinny content with only one or two sentences.
  2. Inbound Website Links: Websites that link into to your site are like votes. The more quality inbound links to your website will increase your page rank and increase your website traffic. However not all links are the same. Links coming from related websites with high page are much more valued than lower ranked sites. Never buy inbound links because Google could penalize you for doing so.
  3. Fresh Content: Google loves websites with fresh new content. It shows them the website is active and alive. Blogs are a great way to add new website content. If you blog once a week, it adds 52 new pages to your website. More content creates more ways to be found in a Google search.

Other factors also include the age of the website, server location, & if it's mobile ready.
